  Are/Were California witnesses REALLY different?

  rumors and urban legends abound with respect to california .

  my suspicion is that envy and the hollywood personna.

  I went to KH's in Northern California and they do not sound at all like the descriptions of Southern California KH's.

  I did notice a few differences between KH's in California and Massachusetts:

  More interracial marriages in California.

  The sisters in the Massachusetts KH were told to wear tights when going out in service during the winter so they wouldn't get as cold walking in the snow. The ladies in California often didn't wear panty hose unless they were older.

  In the halls here in Massachusetts that I have gone to I have only seen 1-2 African Americans at each hall and they were usually very very old or a young single sister.

  I remember one of the elders at our hall saying he used to love chess but since it symbolizes war he doesn't want to displease Jehovah by playing anymore.

  So with that same reasoning...maybe you shouldn't play Chinese Checkers because the chinese regime got rid of God and worshipped Mao.

  Just my thoughts.

  Unique Stupidity

  as far as i'm aware, no other apocalytic group, in which i include seventh day adventists,born again christians, mormons etc cause as much controversys as the jw's.

  i hadn't even realised that born again christians were apocalyptic until i was told by one that 'the end was coming' this week and the tsunami was an act of god to warn us.. so is it just shunning and harrassing people from door to door that makes the jws different?

  or could it be their unique form of stupidity?

  Unfortunately the Jw's stupidity is not unique at all. It's prevalent in a lot of churches today.

  I remember when I was in high school my next door neighbors were baptist.

  Because the first gulf war/desert storm was going on their church predicted the rapture was going to occur and they even named a date.

  I started getting a little nervous because they didn't pay their bills and started preparing to go with Jesus.

  My neighbor came over the night before and gave me a big hug and went on about how she was sad she wouldn't be seeing me again because I wasn't saved.

  I got really nervous that night thinking what if she is right and I remember praying.

  Well it didn't happen and I couldn't help laughing but I also felt bad for her because she had to go to school that next day after saying she was going to be taken up with Jesus in the rapture.

  She ended up quitting school and getting pregnant.

  I know she has lost her faith.

  I wonder if it was that way for any of the JW's in 1975.

  Since you said you know what they are going to day....are they going to pervert and twist your words.

  Might they say now that you are claiming to be Psychic?

  I know that probably sounds wierd but they pervert and mess up even the most simple of words.

  Watch out because if they are looking for reasons to cause you trouble or get you off the books any little thing can be used against you.

  Do you have to respond?

  i continually battle with my emotional feelings as the daughter of a devout jw and my beliefs as a reasonable educated individual.. problems arise when my mother makes some sort of contact with me via email and always has to put in some dig such as "since you have turned your back on jehovah's people" and then i get furious because if god does have people on earth i am sure the red cross volunteers would be on the list, not the jws i know.

  the statements she makes always irritate me and i sometimes choose to defend my beliefs, my morality, my truth vs her truth.

  i spend time writing not only factful but sometimes emotional charged testimony about what it means to be godly.. once i make my point it opens up a can of worms and i get bombarded with emails or magazines from her trying to make her point.

  What are you going to do when they try to talk to your kids about "The Truth" ?

  We have already made it clear to my mother in law that is not how we are raising our children and she is not to butt in with her books or thoughts.

  It's because of this that we barely see her.

  No hours to be earned at our house.

  Are you describing my mother in law?

  Are we related?

  With exception to the dead animals in the freezer this could be my mother in law. She keeps her dead animals in the backyard it's like a pet cemetary back there!

  I think you can either accept her for the way she is and realize she has a serious mental illness exacerbated by the WTS or just disfellowship her from your life.

  My husband and I are on this path. I have disfellowshipped her from my life and want nothing to do with her.

  I realize a lot of it is mental illness but a lot of it is also pure meanness and manipulation.

  I don't think you have to respond because she is not going to hear what you have to say "Remember she gets direct communication from Jehovah through the Org." She may feel some real mental turmoil because you are not in any longer and you never know what the idiots at the hall are saying to her that may make the situation even worse for both of you.

  Sorry everyone can't just play nicely together on the playground of life.

  i was heaved out of the cinema on more than one occasion, generally by my mother who reckoned some things were just too much for my innocent young eyes and ears.

  I went to the movies with my JW friend and her mom a long time ago and saw the movie " The Son In Law" with Pauly Shore. We had to leave within the first few minutes because the girl room mate kissed her girlfriend.

  I was so pissed. I had popcorn candy and everything.

  and not just everyone "could" run for office.

  you need money, exposure, the media, influence, etc.

  but if you could, if it was even a longshot possibility, would you ever consider running for office?

  I would rather start change at a local level.

  I really want to run for the school board to start some changes to the school system in my town.

  Our mayor is only 28 years old and he has done a lot of great things so far for our town and I think I'm smarter than him...

  I would like to thank you all for being here and the serious posts and funny posts. I have been so lonely lately that you all have been like a voice in the fog.

  I'd also thank my children being born and helping me to lighten up because without them I know I would not still be on this earth.
